Definition And Meaning Of Hard-drive
Hard-drive is the primary storage unit of computer. It is mostly used to stores all of your digital content, documents, pictures, music, videos, programs, applications and operating system that stored on a harddrive.
Hard-drive is a Non-volatile storage device that contains platters and magnetic disks rotating at high speed. Non-volatile means the data retains when the computer is turned off. It is main computers is Read/write actuator arm, Head Actuator, Read/Write head, spindle, and platter. A circuit board called as the interface board or disk controller. Preset on the back of a Hard-drive.
Functions Of Hard-drive
The Hard-drive is a secondary storage device. Which is used to store data permanently. Hard-drive were introduced by IBM in the year 1956 and were the dominant secondary storage device for general purposes computers in the early 1960s.
The first personal computer contains a Hard-drive of less then 1 megabyte, while modern computers contain a Hard-drive of 1 Terabyte.
Every computer contains atleast one HDD to store data and software. In Windows system HDD is known as C drive and in MAC system it is simply known as the Hard-drive.
The size of Hard-drive is measured in Gigabytes and Terabytes. Mostly 500 GB HDD are commonly used in modern computers.
Advantages Of Hard-drive
This following advantages of Hard-drive are given below
Most significant advantage of Hard-drive is that it’s cast is low.
Hard-drive is easily available in the market is another advantage of HDD.
Hard-drive is faster than optical disk.
Hard-drive storing capacity is large.
Disadvantages Of Hard-drive
Hard-drive consumes more powe.
It is noisy.
Harddisk are heavier then SSD.
Reading and writing speed of HDD is slow than the RAM.
Hard-drive can used for a long time and HDD are Robust. Hard-drive can be crashed and the main Reason is Hard crash.
Types of Hard-drive
There are four types of Harddrive
1. PATA (Parallel Advance Technology Attachment) It was first used in 1986. It is a medium speed harddrive it’s data transfer rate upto 130 MB/S. This drive store using magnetim. PATA harddrive use the ATA interface standard to connectto the computer.
2. SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) SATA Hard-drive used in Today’s computers and laptops. The data transfer rate of SATA hard-drive is higher then PATA drive. It’s speed can be 150 MB/S to 600 MB/S.
3. SCSI (Sall Computer system Interface) SCSI is a set of standard for physically connecting and transferring data between computers and peripherals device. This is quite para9to the IDE Hard-drive. The new version SCSI Hard-drive (16 bit ultra-640) has data transfer speed upto 640 MB/S and can connect 16 device at a time.
4. SSD (Solid State Drive) It is one of the latest used drive today. It is much better and faster then all other hard disk drive. It use flash memory technology to store data SSDs data transfer speed is very fast. It costs a lot more then an Hard-drive. It is also sometimes called a semi conductors storage device.
